The new Bürgenstock Resort
Haven of Tranquility
Due for completion in 2014, Central Switzerland is witnessing the emergence of a premier resort – the Bürgenstock Resort, perched 450 metres above Lake Lucerne. Work on the development is in full swing. The State of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund is investing CHF 485 million in a project destined to become an exclusive landmark for Central Switzerland, if not the whole of Switzerland.
The setting of the new Bürgenstock Resorts could not be more ideal: the views from Mt. Bürgenberg are mind-blowing, while the project will be a boon to the region's tourism and its economy. The unique forward-looking resort concept, which is due for completion in 2014, rests on five pillars:
• Waldhotel offering medical wellness
• Congresses, conferences and banqueting
• Icon Hotel offering premium hospitality; Palace Hotel with a unique 10,000 square metre spa facility
• Residence suites with hotel service
• Local tourism
The development comprises three hotels providing more than 400 rooms and 800 beds; 68 Residence Auites; and 20 bars and restaurants.
The capital investment involved is CHF 485 million.
A study by BAK Basel Economics has indicated that the resort should be of immense value to the region's economy: the project is estimated to create around CHF 1.2 billion of accumulated value by 2020. Once fully up and running, the resort will be providing in the region of 800 jobs. It will give a major boost to the region's 5-star hospitality category and is forecast to attract new guest segments into Central Switzerland. The entire tourism sector will benefit from the effects.
