The 'wild west' region of Lucerne
Switzerland's first biosphere reserve features intact moor landscapes, rugged karst fields and delightful rolling hills. Hardly any other region in Switzerland has as many natural resources as this 'wild west' region of Lucerne.
It boasts Switzerland’s largest and most numerous moor landscapes, together with a flora and fauna of national and international importance. The Entlebuch Biosphere offers not only rest and relaxation in an unspoilt natural setting, but also an array of leisure activities, including an Energy Path, a Fairytale Path, a Kneipp hydrotherapy facility, a moor bath, satellite-guided hiking and guided excursions. The region can also take credit for a wealth of ancient historical and cultural riches, with highpoints that include the old charcoal burning site in Romoos and the Heiligkreuz place of pilgrimage.
