Lucerne - Kastanienbaum
From Lucerne Station - to the right along lakeside - for about 5 km follow the national cycle routes no. 3 & 9 in the direction of Stansstad / Sarnen, Villa Krämerstein (with picnic area and bathing)
Right into Kreuzmattstrasse - at the modern chapel
straight ahead on narrow little road, steep uphill -
at farmhouse turn left onto footpath - on this follow
the hillside path around the hill (first easy downhill,
then horizontal; at both farms half right turns)

View of lake and mountains - on gravel path about
400 m horizontally to field-path junction - left in
direction Winkel - first through small wood, then
pass farmhouses, very steep downhill - winding
road down to the lake - left into the shore road -
then along the lakeside - again taking the national
cycle routes no. 3 & 9 in the direction of Lucerne for
approximately 8 km Kastanienbaum - Villa Krämerstein
- St. Niklausen - Lucerne Railway Station.
In wet weather Mountain Bike is necessary. Short, medium difficult bicycle tour on infrequented roads; some roads unsurfaced; a few short but very steep sections; fantastic views of the lake and mountains; several bathing spots; restaurants in Winkel, Kastanienbaum and St. Niklausen.
