Established in 1903 the Lucerne Golf Club is Switzerland’s third oldest club after Engadine and Montreux.
Established in 1903 the Lucerne Golf Club is Switzerland’s third oldest club after Engadine and Montreux. In a bid to promote tourism, Lucerne’s hoteliers and tourist board decided at the time to build a 9-hole golf course on the Sonnenberg.
By 1925 the first 18-hole course had opened on the Dietschiberg. As the equipment and technique of golfers improved, it was generally felt that, while the course was certainly pleasing to the eye, it was too short to satisfy the challenges of the game. And so over the next few years the course was revised several times to adapt to the modern game. The relatively tight-lie fairways require accuracy rather than length. The Lucerne Golf Club offers a uniquely rewarding golfing experience, with a traditional course concept combined with the challenges of a modern course and its delightful surroundings. The Clubhouse, originally a farmhouse, is over 200 years old and offers members and guests an unprecedented level of comfort.
