Nature-based and cultural tourism in the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region

At Lucerne Tourism, we support sustainable development in the tourism industry by optimising our own operations and promoting nature-based and cultural opportunities for tourists travelling for both leisure and business. Our aim is to offer attractive experiences for guests which are economically beneficial to the region and as environmentally and socially responsible as possible.
Our sustainability targets and measures focus on the economy, society and the environment, and are enshrined in all of our strategic documents and agreements:

  • To promote environmentally friendly travel (e.g. free public transport tickets for hotel guests)
  • To strengthen the regional economy (through partnerships, procurement, etc.)
  • To smooth out peaks in demand by improving tourist numbers during the offpeak season (e.g. promoting winter months, receiving increased congressional support during the winter, etc.)
  • To promote tourism awareness among the general public
  • To showcase the region’s culture and history as well as to preserve its traditions and the local environment
  • To systematically observe environmental and sustainability criteria when creating tourism opportunities
  • To implement quality assurance and environmental management internally as part of QIII and ISO certifications and use electric vehicles as company cars

The Sustainable Tourism Opportunities Guide (Leitfaden «Nachhaltige Tourismusangebote») offers support with the development, implementation and marketing of sustainable opportunities for tourists. It was developed as part of the Innotour Project in collaboration with Lucerne Tourism and the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch as well as other Swiss destinations and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
