The fragrance of gingerbread, tangerines, cloves and mulled wine hangs in the air. Christmas decorations featuring lights and candles illuminate Lucerne's alleys in the darker season of the year. Christmas markets invite people to defy the cold and congregate outside. Matching the mood, here's a list of places where you can sample mulled wine in Lucerne.
Spend cosy moments in the Weihnachtshüttli on the wintry lakeside terrace of the Grand Hotel National. See the evening out curled up under a fleecy blanket with warming mulled wine and a slice of birnbrot pear bread. The glittering lake and decorated fir trees will soon have you in the Advent mood.
Cuddle up with a friend or wrap yourself in a fur coat or woolly blanket at the La Barca, a «vincafé» located on «unter der Egg» on the Reuss. The freshly prepared mulled wine, fondue, raclette and other house specialities will soon warm you up from the inside. Enjoy the great atmosphere, tasty food and good company.
Preparation time: about 15 minutes / recipe for 4 persons
Bring all the ingredients to the boil in a pan, stirring occasionally. Remove the pan from the heat, cover and allow to stand for approx. 10 minutes, then heat it up again, remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves and serve in preheated glasses.
Alcohol-free mulled «wine»: use red grape juice instead of wine and omit the sugar.
