Romantic Hallwyl moated castle lies at the outflow of Lake Hallwil in the Canton Aargau portion of the Seetal. Erected in the 12th century, it remained in the von Hallwyl family until the 20th century.
Hallwyl Castle now houses a museum. The wide-ranging exhibition comprises 11 themes and ranges from the Middle Ages to the modern age, with each theme showcasing a different member of the von Hallwyl family. The display in the granary focuses on the customs and occupations of the Seetal, while an island in the grounds houses a water mill complete with water wheel.
The exhibition is complemented by a varied programme of events and activities for all ages. In addition, various rooms can be booked for functions and seminars. Further information is available on the castle's website.
If you fancy a walk in the countryside after visiting the museum, head for the nearby nature reserve on Lake Hallwil, which also has a number of places where you can swim.
