The Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is organising the third international piano festival "Le piano symphonique" from 7 to 11 February 2023. After Saint-Saëns and Brahms, the focus will now be on Robert Schumann, among others, interpreted by absolute world stars such as Martha Argerich (Schumann Piano Concerto on 8 February), Rudolf Buchbinder (opening concert on 7 February) and Khatia Buniatishvili.
88 white and black keys, from which top international virtuosos Evgeny Kissin together with the American star soprano Renée Fleming (additional concert on 23 January including a world premiere) and Martha Argerich in a second evening of chamber music (accompanied by Mischa Maisky and Thomas Hampson) will conjure up almost infinite worlds of sound.
With Marie-Ange Nguci, Lukáš Vondráček and the 18-year-old Yoav Levanon (including a world premiere by Marc-André Hamelin on 11 February), leading representatives of the next generation of pianists will perform in lunch recitals. In addition, a new piano work by Edmund Finnis (9 February) will be performed in a solo recital by Víkingur Ólafsson, which - as an innovative concert concept - follows a first symphonic concert section with the legendary Paderewski Piano Concerto (also with Yoav Levanon as soloist).
