Milking Lake

Lake Melchsee is the center and namesake of Melchsee-Frutt.

It lies at almost 2,000 meters above sea level and is dammed by an artificial dam. The Hugschwendi power station, which is operated by Elektrizitätswerk Obwalden (EWO), produces electricity.

 Fishing**in Lake Melchsee**
Six different species of trout and char are released into Lake Melchsee. Numerous fishermen meet on Melchsee-Frutt for mountain lake fishing. In winter, ice fishing is offered on the frozen lake.

**Fireplaces at Lake Melchsee**
There are two fireplaces around Lake Melchsee in the Vogelbüel and Balmeregg areas for barbecuing. Dry wood and barbecue grills are available - making sausage grilling a fun activity for the whole family.
