Up the Pilatus in the driver’s cab

You’re at the very front of the world’s steepest cogwheel railway. The cab ride up the Pilatus is an impressive experience.

You and the engine driver climb aboard at the very front in Alpnachstad. Time for the off. During the ride, the driver tells you exciting details about the history of the cogwheel railway. Tackling a gradient of up to 48 per cent, the trip takes around 30 minutes. The route appears even steeper from the cab, and the unobstructed views are amazing. You pass striking rock formations and blooming Alpine meadows as you make the steep ascent towards Pilatus Kulm at 2,132 metres above sea level.
