The tour starts with the Susten Pass, one of the most harmonious Alpine passes for racing cyclists. The even gradient of Ø 7.5 % makes for a pleasant roll-in, even if the climb stretches over 17 km. At the top, the view of the Steingletscher rewards the effort. The descent to Innertkirchen is rapid, with wide bends that allow high speeds. From there, the long ascent to the Grimsel Pass begins, which impresses with its reservoirs and barren high mountain landscape. The gradient varies between 5 and 9 %, and the final hairpin bends demand renewed strength and concentration. The road surface is excellent and makes both the ascent and the descent to Ulrichen a pleasure. 2,478 m above sea level, the Nufenen Pass is the highest point of the route. The Nufenen Pass is the highest point of the tour and one of the toughest passes in Switzerland. Ramps of up to 13% demand everything, often accompanied by the wind. The descent into Ticino is steep and fast - good braking technique is a must here. Finally, the historic Tremola awaits on the Gotthard Pass: cobblestones, narrow serpentines and alpine nostalgia. Once you arrive here, you can feel the history and look forward to the well-earned descent to Andermatt.
