The educational trail explains the protective function of the forest for settlements located on steep slopes, such as Altdorf in the canton of Uri. Without protective forest, no one could live here.

Altdorf is located on a steep slope. Erosion and rockfall shape the landscape in the so-called Altdorfer Bannwald. Only thanks to the forest could the settlements on the slopes develop. Today, humans must build protective structures here and there. Due to climate change, the danger of rockfalls and landslides is increasing. **Getting there**By car: The base station of the Flüelen-Eggberge aerial cableway is located about one hundred meters south of the A2 Flüelen/Altdorf highway exit (roundabout).

**Parking**Parking spaces are available at the cableway for private cars.

**Public transportation**By train and bus: From Flüelen SBB station you have a direct connection to the base station of the aerial cableway by bus (every 15 minutes).

The aerial cableway Flüelen-Eggberge takes you in just ten minutes from 450 m to 1450 m above sea level to the starting point of the educational trail. The cableway operates in summer between 07:00 and 20:00 and in winter between 07:30 and 19:00 (every half hour).
