description: "Already in the 19th century, the Furka region was discovered as a travel paradise with the growing Alpine tourism. Even today, many historic hotel buildings along the route bear witness to this time. On the way to the pass summit, motorcyclists can watch the historic Furka steam railway during its puffing journey. From the pass summit, you enjoy a breathtaking view. To the east, the view extends over the Ursern Valley and the Gotthard massif, to the west to the over 4000 m high peaks of the Valais and Bernese Alps. The pass offers numerous hiking, climbing, and high alpine tour options. Flower experts will find a diverse plant world here, and the area is also rich in minerals. On the Valais side, from the Hotel Belvédère, there is a view of the Rhone Glacier, which has lost much of its spectacular size due to climate change. Around 1850, the ice stream still reached far down into the valley floor."
