Gitschi Valley Bike is a fantastic combination of Lake Lucerne and mountain valley. This varied tour, spiced up with some juicy climbs, introduces you to a tranquil, remote side valley.

Starting at Altdorf station, you proceed northwards to Wild Ried, then westwards along a field track to Unterdorf. You might like to pay a visit to A Pro Castle and the exhibition of minerals it contains; at the same time, why not do an extra loop to Lake Uri and its Lorelei bathing islands? After the junction at the convent of St. Lazarus, whose roots date back to the Middle Ages, making it the oldest such institution in Canton Uri, the tour climbs continually until it reaches the Gitschi valley road. This winding road featuring sharp climbs has a lot to offer. Before entering the tunnel into the Gitschi valley, make sure you pause at the Stotzigen vantage point for its stunning vista of the Reuss delta. The last three kilometres lead through cooling stretches of woodland and alpine pastures until you arrive at Gitschitaler Boden, the highest point of the route. The way back is the same as far as the Bodenwald. Finally, you pedal southwards back to where you started, passing through the baronial village of Attinghausen with its castle ruins.
