In five daily stages, this route leads from the Pilatus over the geographical center of Switzerland to the Stanserhorn, always at a lofty altitude and with fantastic views of countless Alpine peaks and a dozen Alpine border lakes.

With the steepest cog railway in the world from Alpnachstad or with the cable car from Kriens, you reach the Pilatus summit, a 2132-meter high vantage point and spectacular starting point of the Obwalden high route. The view extends far down to Lake Lucerne and over countless Alpine peaks. Alternating between fir forests and alpine meadows, you hike on cozy trails right into the moorland Glaubenberg within the Biosphere Reserve Entlebuch.

Cheese and sausage directly from the alp are a delight and provide strength while hiking with a view over the Glaubenbielen Pass to the panoramic world of Lungern-Schönbüel. Höchgumme and Wilerhorn, two rewarding summit destinations on the way to the Brünig Pass, promise breathtaking downward views to the turquoise Brienz Lake.

Passing picturesque alpine chapels, the path climbs to the geographical center of Switzerland at the Aelggialp. With the glacier-covered Titlis in view, you reach the lake plateau Melchsee-Frutt at a lofty altitude. The route finally explores the east flank of the original Melch valley and offers beautiful views of the wild landscape. With some luck, you might spot chamois or even an eagle on the way to the Stanserhorn.

Stage 4: High above Lake Lungern, passing picturesque alpine chapels, the path climbs to the Aelggialp, the geographical center of Switzerland. Over a rock ridge, you reach the lake plateau Melchsee-Frutt at a lofty altitude, a destination for those seeking relaxation in summer and winter.
