Information on Coronavirus

  • The lockdown in Switzerland will be eased stepwise within the following weeks. Protection and hygiene measures will continue to have to be followed. The Swiss government announced a countrywide ban on gatherings of more than five people in public spaces. For groups up to 5  persons there has to be a space of 2 meters between the persons. This remains until June 8, 2020. Compliance in public areas is monitored by security forces and enforced if necessary.

  • Controls are currently being conducted at the borders with Italy, Germany, France and Austria. Only Swiss citizens, persons with a residence permit and persons travelling to Switzerland for professional reasons are allowed to enter the country. Transit traffic remains permitted. From May 11, 2020, the restrictions of immigration will be eased step by step as well as the public transportation services will be intensified progressively. The borders with Germany, Austria and France will be reopened from June 15, 2020.
  • Open/Permitted from May 11, 2020:
    • Shops and travel agencies
    • Museums and libraries
    • Gastronomy (max. four people per table
  • Open/Permitted from June 8, 2020:
    • Zoos, swimming pools, theatres, cinemas and church services
    • Mountain railways
    • Gatherings of more than five people
  • Takeaway establishments, meal delivery services, shops selling food and goods for basic needs, as well as post offices, railways stations, banks, pharmacies, drugstores and healthcare facilities still remain open
  • As of March 17, the Federal Council has banned public and private events. Large events with more than 1000 people will probably remain prohibited until the end of August. The regulation of events with less than 1000 persons is yet unclear.
