Georg Philipp Telemann was born in Magdeburg on March 14, 1681. From 1712, he worked as a music director in Frankfurt am Main. In 1721, he took up the post of music director in Hamburg, where he remained until his death on June 25, 1767.

Telemann is one of the most prolific composers of music and is considered one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era. He was known for his vocal melodies and imaginative use of timbre. Telemann also integrated various national styles to create his unique musical language.

In the oratorio "The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus", no specific literary roles are assigned to the singers and no dramatic plot is described through the music and text. Instead, the arias and choruses depict feelings, thoughts and emotions that reflect the resurrection and ascension of Jesus.

In particularly solemn passages, the Saliera Quartet, together with the award-winning trumpeter Manuela Fuchs, adds a special brilliance with movements from Telemann's famous trumpet quintet.

The vocal ensemble

The vocal ensemble i Cantanti was founded in 2003 to perform challenging works a cappella or with a small instrumental accompaniment in Küssnacht and the surrounding area. The ensemble is primarily made up of singers from Central Switzerland.

I Cantanti organizes a wide range of free cultural activities for the region, either in concert or by participating in various church services. The ensemble has set itself the goal of enabling a broad public to enjoy high-quality masterpieces of music in a low-threshold manner.

The Küssnacht vocal ensemble, under the direction of Lucerne church musician and conductor Heinrich Knüsel, has already taken part in several radio and television recordings as part of the "Dormant Noten" project. As a local association, i Cantanti is also aware of its social responsibility and regularly organizes performances in retirement homes.
