Alp Hobiel

Group Accommodation
The Hobiel Alp is a two-hour walk from the Surenen Pass on the northern side of the Engelberg Valley at an altitude of 1673 metres above sea level;

From Attinghausen, it can only be reached on foot over the pass. Alternatively, you can reach Alp Hobiel from Engelberg by taking the Engelberg-Fürenalp cable car and then walking (approx. 45 minutes).

The alpine hut can accommodate up to 28 people in various rooms. The Alphüte has double and 4-bed rooms, 6-person dormitories and a dormitory for 14 people.

The use of a hut sleeping bag is recommended.

Simple Alpbeizli

The Beizli is ideal as a starting point for pass hikes or as a place to stop for refreshments in the Surenen region. From the garden restaurant you have an unrivalled view of the two Spannort peaks, the Schlossberg and the Titlis. You will be served hearty alpine fare. For example, try the Hobiel platter with Uri Dürrs, alpine cheese, bacon and dried sausage or Ruedi's fried cheese.

In the past, the Surenen area with its rich Alps was part of the lands of Engelberg Abbey. According to legend, the story of the old man on Surenen took place here. The legend also provides an explanation as to why the alp today does not belong to Obwalden, on whose side of the pass it lies, but to Uri.
