We start in Schachen in Muotathal, which lies in a plain flanked by high, rugged mountains, and follow the signposts to Riemenstalden and Lidernenhütte SAC. Over Flüelen and Hellweid, an ancient landslide area, we reach the Frutt on an asphalt road. From Flüelen there is also an attractive, only 10 minutes longer alternative along a mountain path through rock bands over the Lower and Upper Wissenwand to Frutt. Here we follow the alpine road to the Höchi, the crossing into the Riemenstalden valley. Shortly after the Höchi, the path branches off towards the south to the Lidernenhütte, first steeply uphill, then uneven with ups and downs. From a distance, we see our overnight accommodation, the Lidernenhütte SAC. The next morning we follow the signposts to the Chaiserstock. Past the impressive Schmalstöckli, the path first goes uphill over alpine pastures and along several small mountain lakes. The terrain becomes rockier and the rocky southwest face of the Chaiserstock comes closer. The path leads under this towering wall to a steep gully up to the Chaisertor. Now follows the exciting and exposed ridge, secured by wire ropes and chains at exposed points. At the top we enjoy the magnificent view in all directions, both into the mountain world and far into the lowlands. How many lakes can you see?
The descent is the same path until shortly before the Lidernen Plänggeli; instead of going northwest to Lidernen, we now choose the steep path down through the Lidernen Plänggeli to Seenalp. From there, a winding path leads us to Liplisbüel and then through the shady, wooded slopes of the Hürital down to Muotathal.
