From Oberrickenbach in the lower Engelberg valley, "s’blaiä Bähnli" takes you to the starting point of this easy snowshoe circular hike. At the mountain station of the Fell-Chrüzhütte cable car Bannalp, the landmark of the small winter sports area, the Bietstock, immediately catches the eye. With the pointed peak "at your back" and the view ahead towards the Walenstöcke, which tower impressively above the alp, the snowshoe trail first gently descends through the snowy winter forest to Bannalpsee.
The path passes slightly above the frozen and deeply snow-covered reservoir, which has supplied the canton of Nidwalden with electricity since the 1930s. Through a light fir forest, with the Bannalpbach stream on the right, it goes with a steady, gentle ascent towards the Berggasthaus Urnerstaffel. Here, cold feet and hands can be warmed again with a hot cup of tea before returning over open terrain to the starting point.
