Discover a total of 50 kilometers of classic and skating trails on the Marbach-Escholzmatt-Bumbach trail network and enjoy the incomparable view. The Bumbach trail runs for 10 km from the Bumbach schoolhouse to Kemmeriboden. A well-groomed trail awaits you in a magnificent winter landscape along the Emme surrounded by Hohgant, Schrattenfluh and Schibengütsch.

The night trail in Bumbach (3 km, start at the Bumbach schoolhouse) is floodlit daily from 6.00 - 9.00 pm. There is a switch for the lighting at the Loipenhüsli.

Here you can obtain cross-country ski passes, season & weekly passes and cross-country ski tickets:    ESCHOLZMATT: Tourist office, Gasthaus Krone (only on Sunday)   
WIGGEN: Egghus snack bar   
MARBACH: Tourist office, valley station of the cable cars, Lötscher bakery   
SCHANGNAU: Tourist office (at the municipal administration)   
BUMBACH: Gasthof Alpenrose, Gasthof Rosegg, Hotel Kemmeriboden-Bad, valley station of the Bumbach ski lifts

With all cross-country ski passes and tickets, you can travel free of charge on the Escholzmatt-Kemmeriboden PostBus route during the winter season! There are 15 Postbus stops along the trail.

Directions & Parking facilities

Easy to reach from the Bern region as well as from the Lucerne region.  Bumbach is easily accessible between Berne and Lucerne. By car you can reach Bumbach in 60 minutes from Lucerne via Wolhusen - Entlebuch - Wiggen, in 60 minutes from Berne via Worb - Grosshöchstetten - Langnau - Wiggen, in 30 minutes from Thun via Schallenberg.
Various free parking spaces along the trails.
Take the train from Lucerne or Bern to Escholzmatt and change to the Postbus in the direction of Marbach-Schangnau-Kemmeriboden. There are a total of 15 PostBus stops along the Escholzmatt-Marbach-Bumbach cross-country ski trail network.

  • Only use the marked trails and follow the signs.   

  • Be considerate of other trail users and the landscape.   

  • Carry additional sun protection with you. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter, even in cloudy weather.   

  • Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing is very important.
