From Lucerne, following the Reuss river and up to Rothenburg, over the Lohrensäge to Malters and above the Emme through the Renggloch back to Lucerne. Short and sweet; a perfect short route with a racing bike or a medium route with a regular bike.

Starting at the Lucerne Theater on Bahnhofstrasse, we ride past the Jesuit Church down the Reuss, turn right after 200 meters and cross the river on the Reuss bridge. Arriving at Mühlenplatz, we cycle along the right bank of the Reuss towards Nölliturm and then turn right into St. Karlistrasse. Over the bridge of the same name, we cross the Reuss again and immediately afterwards turn right before the railway embankment. Between the embankment and residential houses, we ride about 600 meters to enter a tight curve directly to the Reuss. On the bike and pedestrian path, we rush along the river to Nordpol and further over the Kleine Emme, always following the bike path. Later, the path narrows and at the first parking lot, we turn left into Schwanderhofstrasse. We follow this to Restaurant Kreuz, where we cross Seetalstrasse to continue on the bike path to the church. After this, we turn left into Kirchfeldstrasse towards Emmen airfield. We cross the airfield and pedal strongly to the first ascent to the roundabout and continue uphill on Kasernenstrasse. On Adligenstrasse, we first go slightly downhill over the railway crossing and then steadily uphill to Rothenburg. After the Adligen hill, we follow the signpost to Rothenburg Station and then continue on the bike path right of the railway track. At the end of the path, we keep left to go through the underpass to the road to Lohrensäge. Before getting on the road, we turn right onto the newly built bike path. Past the Lohrensäge, we reach Lohrenkreuzung. Depending on traffic density, we choose either the pedestrian crossing or the left turn lane towards Ruswil. On the steadily ascending road, we again pedal on a freshly built bike path. At Oberstechenrain farm, we cross Hellbühlstrasse to continue our route on the side road towards Spitz. At the Spitz landfill, keep right, then turn left at Spitzhof and go on the winding, slightly downhill road towards Malters. About one kilometer before entering Malters, we join the main road and speed into the town. Shortly after crossing the highway and Kleine Emme bridge, on the right side of the road, is the factory shop of Guetzli Hug. Anyone craving a small refreshment is highly recommended to stop here.

Then we cross the railway crossing towards the center of Malters and turn left at Hotel Kreuz. Here we can refill our water bottles with fresh spring water from Pilatus at the village fountain.

Shortly after Restaurant Brauerei, we turn into Rothenstrasse at the large parking lot on the right to gain some altitude again. The road first goes through a residential area and then past several farms. The view improves as it opens towards the east and the Littauerboden. After a short descent, we again reach the main road in the small hamlet of Blatten and continue on it keeping right. It leads steadily uphill; at the hairpin bend, we follow the road to the right towards Renggloch. This section can have quite a lot of traffic depending on the time of day.

After the ascent, we now ride downhill through the Obernau district to Kriens. After the “Schappe-Center,” follow the signpost to Sonnenbergbahn and turn left into Schachenstrasse. On the slightly downhill residential street, we rush past the Eichhof brewery into Taubenhausstrasse and then into the Bruch quarter. These streets are optimized for cyclists and fairly low in traffic.

At the Restaurant “Drei Könige,” turn right into Klosterstrasse to cross Hirschengraben at the traffic light and through Rütligasse to reach Bahnhofstrasse again. Past the government building of the canton of Lucerne, we arrive back at the start point by the city theater.
