50 years Vögele Kultur Zentrum
In 1976, Charles Vögele (1923-2002) opened the Vögele Kultur Zentrum - then still called the Seedamm Kulturzentrum - as a museum for contemporary art.
At a time when established museums mainly appealed to an educated, middle-aged audience, the entrepreneur and patron of the arts took a radically different approach: he wanted to create a place where curiosity could be aroused, barriers broken down and people of all ages, especially young people, could be inspired by culture.
Even then, Charles Vögele was deeply convinced that art and cultural education was not just an additional program, but the core mission of his cultural center. It was not intended to function and be understood as a traditional museum, but as a lively "center for art education and museum pedagogy".
In this anniversary year, we invite you to take a look at the origins and development of the Vögele Kultur Zentrum and behind the scenes with the special exhibition "50 Years of the Vögele Kultur Zentrum".
