Central Switzerland Apple Pie Day

  • Culinary delights
The apple day takes place in Central Switzerland every year on the last Friday in October – precisely when apples are in season with us.

The goal of this action day is to raise awareness among the population about the value of local, seasonal, and regionally produced food. Around 50 locations in the cantons of LU, UR, NW, OW, SZ, and ZG are participating in the event. Apple galettes and many other apple-related products such as apple rings, apple mousse, or sweet cider will be sold.

Especially in a time when products from all over the world are available at any time, the apple day aims to create awareness that our local foods grow in harmony with nature at the right time and in the right place – and therefore should be consumed preferentially.

The apple symbolizes many other local products that are not only fresh and flavorful but also ecologically sensible. Regional and seasonal foods are characterized by short transport distances, sustainable production, and high quality. Furthermore, from a health perspective, the apple is also a true asset: rich in vitamins, versatile, and storable throughout the year.

With the apple day, we also aim to strengthen the trust of the population in local agriculture and promote dialogue between producers and consumers. Because those who shop locally not only support the environment but also the farmers in their own region.
