NETWORK: OVER- OR UNDER-ESTIMATED NECESSITY?
In networks, various elements communicate with each other. Networks
enable the exchange of information among people, institutions,
machines, smartphones, etc. The goal of a network is to transmit data efficiently
and to utilize shared resources. Networks are also the foundation
for digital technology. Particularly in research, networks
are a central success factor. Networks can often achieve more than individuals
alone, despite the excellent skills,
competencies, and creativity of individual members.
Markets, electricity or transport networks extend far beyond national borders.
A network that has become vital and spans the entire
earth is the Internet. An international framework opens interesting
opportunities from an economic perspective, for supply and defense security.
However, it is also associated with risks. All areas are subject to
legal regulations and due diligence, transparency, responsibility, and ultimately
trust.
Networks represent an important complement to individual
competencies in almost all industries. Networks can of course also create disadvantages,
for example, when they primarily benefit privileged groups
and thereby exacerbate social inequalities or when networks support criminal
activities.
At the «Engelberger Dialogues 2026», experts will
report on their networks and their benefits and risks. Not only auction houses
and museums rely on a network of competent, trustworthy
art experts. Swiss politicians will focus on the safety net, while medical professionals will address the complex regulation of the human body
starting from the brain. Reports will also cover other networks, such as the cooperative fenaco,
a Rotary Club, the MedTech industry, and of course nature.
