Salon of the Present in Central Switzerland 2026
Exhibition project at the akku Art Platform Emmen, at the Hans Erni Museum Lucerne, in the Stans Gallery, and at the Engelberg Valley Museum. The Zurich grouping of figurative painting is appearing in Central Switzerland for the first time with guests from the region. Each of the four exhibition venues shows works by all participants, but each places its own thematic emphasis. A rich accompanying program deepens the central theme of the exhibitions: the contemporaneity of figurative painting.
At the Engelberg Valley Museum, the focus is on the surface and what lies beneath: UnderGround. The surface is the first thing we perceive: the visible skin of the image, shaped by material, print, and gloss, where meaning first appears. However, it always refers to an underlying structure, an inner order formed by traces, rhythm, and density. The figure also unites these levels, being at once a physical shell and a human fabric of history and tension. Thus, the surface and structure together create a lively interplay in which the visible and the invisible are inextricably linked.
