For over 525 years, the boys in their iconic sailor suits have been delighting audiences all over the world. What began in 1498 on the orders of Emperor Maximilian I as part of the Viennese court music has developed into one of the most renowned choirs in music history, a cultural flagship of Austria and a resounding symbol of musical excellence, discipline and youthfulness. Names such as Joseph and Michael Haydn and Franz Schubert are inextricably linked with the history of the Boys' Choir.
With "World Hits", the Vienna Boys' Choir presents itself from its particularly versatile side. The program combines great masterpieces of classical music with world-famous melodies from opera, film music and pop. The program will include the rousing "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the powerful "O Fortuna" from Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" and the poignant prisoners' chorus "Va, pensiero" from Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco".
