The tranquil peak overlooking Lake Lucerne.

Just eight minutes separate you from everyday life. From the Obergschwend valley station, around 5 kilometres above Gersau, the small cable car takes you up to 1,551 metres above sea level – to a place where tranquillity, sweeping views and nature set the pace. At the top, you’ll find an unspoilt mountain landscape, soothing silence and a breathtaking panoramic view over the surrounding peaks and Lake Lucerne. Rigi Burggeist is no ordinary destination – it’s a place to slow down.

The Cable Car

The cable car runs to the Rigi every half hour (more frequently during busy periods). Opening hours: daily 08.00–18.00 (Fridays and Saturdays until 20.00)

Summer at the Burggeist

When the Alpine meadows are in bloom, the Burggeist becomes a mountain offering a wide range of experiences for the whole family:

Hiking – There are numerous routes starting directly from Rigi Burggeist, ranging from easy walks to challenging mountain hikes. Highlights include the steep hike up to the Rigi Hochflue with its spectacular panoramic views, and the family-friendly Zwergliweg trail for children from Year 1 onwards.

Families & Children – A playground right next to the terrace of the mountain inn provides fun and variety. Whilst the children play, the adults can enjoy the view. Children up to the age of 15 travel free of charge in summer when accompanied by an adult.

Culinary delights – The cosy Rigi Burggeist mountain inn invites you to sample regional specialities. On the sun terrace, panoramic views, mountain air and culinary delights combine to create a truly special moment.

Winter at Burggeist

In winter, Burggeist is considered a real hidden gem away from the crowds. Families love the well-organised ski and toboggan runs, whilst freeriders can find slopes untouched by fresh snow. Queues at the lifts or cable cars are rare here.
