The Griesssee, also known as the Gletscherseeli, is an impressive glacial lake located above the Klausen Pass in the municipality of Spiringen in the canton of Uri. At an elevation of 2,098 meters above sea level, it stretches out at the foot of the mighty Clariden. Its milky-gray color reveals its origin: meltwater and fine rock particles ground by the glacier color the water and give it its distinctive character. Framed by scree and ice, the lake forms a landscape of rugged beauty.
The water of Lake Griessli flows via the Fätschbach to Urnerboden and into the Glarus region. Hikers can reach the lake from the Klausen Pass in about an hour’s walk along a mountain trail marked with white-red-white signs.
