The World Band Festival is the largest brass band festival in Europe. Over the course of eight days, more than 22,000 guests visit the Lucerne Culture and Convention Center.
The World Band Festival always begins with the Besson Swiss Open Contest, an orchestra competition featuring ten Swiss brass bands. The actual opening event, however, is the open-air concert on Europaplatz, which has evolved into a folk festival and is broadcast live on Radio SRF Musikwelle.
The festival continues with concerts spanning a wide variety of genres, including brass, Dixie, swing, jazz, and folk music. The World Band Festival uniquely combines serious and popular music, always keeping the focus on brass ensemble performance.
