- Start: Sustlihütte
- Destination: Sewenhütte
The varied and well-marked high-altitude hiking trail leaves the Sustlihütte SAC (2256 m) eastwards. It runs near Seelenen high above the Sustenpass route along the gently rolling mountain slope over the Chanzelflue beneath the flank of Hochberg to Gemschen (2234 m). The path then descends to the Nossli and, in some switchbacks, down over the Fleschegg into the Fleschboden to the bridge at Gorezmettlen (1614 m) on the Sustenpass route.
The valley cut of Chlialp and the Gorezmettlen stream separate the ascent to Sewenhütte. On the east side of the valley, the hut path rises over the Gitzichrummenflue through sparse mountain forest, later through flowery terrain.
Before we start the last bends, we already see the fluttering flag of the Sewenhütte SAC (2148 m), perched on a prominent rocky ridge high above the Meiental.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Tip:
Those who keep their eyes open will discover a diverse plant world on this stage: besides alpine roses, gentians, and anemones, rarer plants such as Turk's cap lily and paradise lilies also line the hut trail.
The mountain profile of the Meiental is also impressive. In autumn, this landscape appears particularly spectacular: the larch forests begin to glow golden red, and the surrounding mountains seem to catch fire. The small lake nearby, complete with rowing boat, offers plenty of fun for the whole family.
Safety guidelines
Mountain hiking is demanding.
For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of dangers in the mountains (rockfall, slipping/falling hazard, sudden weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic national maps (not only smartphone), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic gear. Additionally, a pocket first-aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies belong to the basic gear.
It is recommended to do a serious route planning and careful preparation for each hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can also make orientation difficult in summer. The biggest danger in summer besides heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail quickly turn small streams into large rivers and increase the danger of mudslides and rockfall. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report when planning routes. Thermal thunderstorms usually come in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time. Generally, it is worth starting early in summer.
Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking trails (white-blue-white marked routes), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.
The Uri hiking planner and the Uri Outdoor app help with planning. Via Geo Admin, you can find many useful information such as where pastures with herd protection dogs, cow-calf pastures, and wildlife protection zones are located.
Hikers hike at their own risk. The Uri Hiking Association is not liable for accidents that occur during the Uri Alpenkranz hike.
