- Start: Gurtnellen Dorf
- Destination: Arni
Southwest of Gurtnellen (930 m) the path rises at the Gorneren-Stäfeli junction in large steep hairpin bends through the protective Näntriger forest to the left of the prominent terrain edge up to the small hunter's hut at Egg (1610 m). A few climbs higher, a viewpoint at Schwarz Berg offers an opportunity to rest. Through rugged rock structures, the route leads us under the Schnuer and Witenstock over the Schönenboden through the area of the massive avalanche barriers of the Geissberg. Here we reach the highest point of this stage at 2016 m. Then the mountain path gently descends to the ridge of the alp Wildampferen (1828 m). On the southernmost side ridge of the Krönten chain, a fantastic panorama unfolds here up to the Hüfifirn, into the Reuss valley and to the rock towers of the Etzlital. From Wildampferen towards Siechchrut, we reach the private Schindlachtal hut (1982 m) via the Intschialp stream. Then the route turns to the other side of the valley and reaches the Hochegg via Wichel and Redelbalmen.
The view extends from the Maderanertal to Gotthard-Lucendro.
The direct descent leads via the Torli to the Arnisee (1370 m). For accommodation and catering, the mountain guesthouses Alpenblick or Arnisee are available.

Safety guidelines
Mountain hiking is demanding.
For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of mountain hazards (rockfall, slipping/falling hazard, weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip sole, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic maps (not just smartphone), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic equipment. Additionally, basic equipment also includes a pocket first aid kit, rescue blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies.
It is recommended to do a serious route planning and careful preparation for each hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can also make orientation difficult in summer. The biggest danger in summer besides heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail quickly turn small streams into large rivers and increase the risk of mudslides and rockfalls. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report when planning routes. Heat thunderstorms often come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of day. Generally, it is worthwhile to start early in summer.
Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking trails (white-blue-white marked routes), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.
The Uri hiking planner and the Uri Outdoor app help with planning. Via Geo Admin, you can find many useful information such as where pastures with herd protection dogs, mother cow pastures, and also wildlife protection zones are located.
Hikers hike at their own responsibility. The Uri Hiking Trails association is not liable for accidents that occur during the Uri Alpine Wreath hike.
