From the cozy Camona da Cavardiras (2652 m) we initially follow the blue-white sign towards Brunnipass. However, we stay on the large plain of Brunnifirn and pass at the foot of Piz Acletta, lastly ascending a slope to the lowest notch between Piz Ault and the Stremhörner, to the Fuorcla da Strem Sut (2830 m). The descent leads over steep rubble and possibly snow to the moraine lake (2579 m). Then we follow the well-visible trail on the northern side of the stream over a pronounced moraine to its end. Across grassland mixed terrain, we cross the stream and descend over the shoulder of Plaunas Calmut into the valley shaped by the streambeds, Val Strem. We follow it on the east side to a footbridge (Alp Strem). After crossing the stream, the trail markings lead to the marked route over Chrüzlipass (2345 m). The path leisurely leads over the pass plateau and gently descends into the Chrüzlital. At the foot of Schafstöckli, we walk into the plain of Müllersmatt (1996 m). Then we leave the green plain and climb a short ascent to the comfortable Etzlihütte SAC (2052 m).

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Option:
To avoid the alpine route over the glacier, we ascend from the Cavardirashütte via the Brunnigrätli to the mid-station of the cable car at Caischavedra. From Disentis, take the MGB to Sedrun, then follow the old pass path and the Alp Caschlé (access to Val Strem closed) to the Chrüzlipass.
Tip:
A local mountain guide or tour leader, male or female, can tell you a lot about the mountain world and is strongly recommended as a companion on this stage (glacier equipment, route finding off paths).
Safety guidelines
Mountain hiking is demanding.
For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of mountain hazards (rockfall, slipping/falling dangers, sudden weather change) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographical national maps (not only smartphone), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic gear. For alpine hiking trails, rope, ice axe, and possibly crampons are additionally recommended. Additionally, a pocket first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies are part of the basic gear.
It is advisable to do thorough tour planning and careful preparation for every hike. Weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can also make orientation difficult even in summer. The greatest danger in summer besides heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail can quickly turn a small stream into big rivers and increase the danger of mudflows and rockfall. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report during tour planning. Thermal thunderstorms often only come in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of the day. Generally, it is worthwhile to be out early in the summer.
Mountain guides or qualified tour leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking trails (white-blue-white marked routes), tour leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.
The Uri hiking planner and the Uri Outdoor app help with planning. Via Geo Admin you can find many useful pieces of information, for example where pastures with herd protection dogs, mother cow pastures, and also wildlife resting zones are located.
Hikers hike at their own risk. The Uri Hiking Association is not liable for accidents occurring during the Uri Alpenkranz hike.
