The highest triple continental divide in Europe is located in the Gotthard massif, south of the Witenwasserenstock at 3025 m (9924 ft) above sea level. Here, the precipitation splits into three significant watercourses: Rhine, Ticino, Rhone.
A path leads to this location from the Witenwasser Valley near Realp. First, drive or walk from Realp into the Witenwasser Valley to Oberstafel. From Oberstafel, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the Cavannapass. Then the path leads via Ronggergrat to the Hüenerstock (2889 m/9484 ft). Now comes the last steep section to the watershed (3025 m/9924 ft), which takes about 50 minutes to master. Surefootedness is required for this section (SAC scale T4). On the return, hikers come back to the Hüenerstock, where the junction to the Rotondo Hut must be taken. After about 40 minutes of hiking, you reach Oberstafel again, where the route started.
