The ride with the post bus from Lucerne station to the Eigenthal takes only half an hour. Due to its proximity to the city and the agglomeration, the valley is a popular excursion destination. It extends in an approximately 7.5 km long semicircle from Trochenmattegg to the valley end at Meienstoss. To the south, it borders the steeply rising limestone walls of the Pilatus range.
In winter, the Eigenthal is popular because of its mostly fog-free location and the numerous cross-country ski trails laid out here. The cross-country ski center, the starting point of the standard trail, is located about 200 meters from the post bus terminal. The trail initially leads on the left side of the valley with a slight ascent towards Buechstäg. Along the way, winter sports enthusiasts always have the majestic backdrop of the Pilatus range in view.
At the turning point, a short descent begins, which then transitions into gently sloping terrain leading downstream towards Meienstoss. The spot in the midst of the vast moorland is ideal for a breather before gently ascending back to the starting point. The Lindenstübli restaurant is located right on the trail, where you can recharge for another round.
