The hike offers us wonderful panoramic views to the south of the largest contiguous mountain massif in the Alps with Clariden, Scherhorn, Ruchen, Grosser Windgällen and Kleiner Windgällen. To the north, we look out over the Bisisthal across the Schwyz Alps. In front of us and later above us, the Schächentaler Windgällen with their wild towers and peaks tower against the summer sky.

We start at the Hotel Klausenpasshöhe. The hiking trail begins west of the hotel. The first hour we ascend to Blamer Grätli. The ascent is initially moderate but then becomes steeper. Here we take the first break and enjoy the panoramic view. Behind us to the north is the Raustöckli.

Rested, we hike along the ridge heading west. The view opens up to Gross-Spannort, Krönten, Blackenstock and Urirotstock. We cross a wild area. It is worth focusing on the path while walking here and stopping repeatedly to enjoy the panoramic view. Below us in Aesch we admire the huge waterfall, the Staiber.

After about forty minutes, we reach the pass between Schächental and Bisisthal, the Ruosalper Chulm. Here begins the descent towards Heidmannegg. If you find the descent strenuous, think of the many thousands of cattle that have already crossed this livestock drive on both sides. The way back to the starting point is then just a short walk. Now we can walk side by side and process the many impressions in a pleasant conversation.

Getting there

You can reach Hotel Klausen-Passhöhe by car either from Glarus or from Altdorf when driving towards Klausenpass. Attention: Hotel Klausen-Passhöhe is not exactly at the pass but about 300 meters below the pass in the direction of Uri.

Parking

At the Hotel Klausen-Passhöhe you will find enough free parking spaces.

Public transportation

Between mid-June and mid-September, PostBuses run over the Klausen pass. Check yearly when the first and possibly the last connection operates.
