The former, centuries-old direct connection between the cantons of Uri and Glarus led through the wild and romantic Schächental. Today, the high trail on the sunny side of the valley runs with slight ups and downs from Klausenpass, high above Spiringen, Bürglen, and Altdorf to Eggbergen, with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The Schächental High Trail also has a lot to offer in terms of fauna and flora. High precipitation and impermeable soils have led to the formation of numerous moors. These moors are habitats for rare, protected animal and plant species and can be found along many sections of the trail.

Directions
From Klausenpass, you hike through beautiful, lush alpine meadows to the Untere Balm. After a short section on the Klausenpass road, the path leads over a natural road to the Alp Heidmanegg. After Heidmanegg, the trail goes on narrow mountain paths through varied, open forests near Äbnet and through open, flower-rich alpine meadows. Above Ratzi, the narrow mountain path merges into a beautifully laid-out natural road leading to Biel. Then you cross the Selez valley basin and reach the Fleschsee, which is set up as an ideal family rest area with a fire pit. After the Grünen Boden, which leads through a light forest section, you arrive at the Eggbergen mountain station. The view of Lake Uri and the largest wild hay area in the canton of Uri below the Rophaiens rounds off the impressive experience "Hiking on the Schächental High Trail."

With the round-trip ticket including public transport, you are even more flexible and mobile. In addition to a mountain and valley ride with one of the four cable cars, you can also enjoy a bus ride to or from Klausen. If you wish to stay in the area and continue your hike the following day, the round-trip ticket with public transport is also valid the next day.
The round-trip ticket with public transport is available on the Auto AG Uri line buses and at the ticket offices of all four cable cars: Eggberge, Ruogig, Biel-Kinzig, and Ratzi.
