The start and finish are at the Alpwirtschaft Horben, which is located on the southeast side of the ridge, not far from Horben Castle. Beginners can warm up on a shorter practice track (1.4 km). The longest trail, which leads into the adjacent canton of Lucerne, is the one over the Lindenberg.
After a short climb, cross-country skiers are treated to a great view over the Upper Freiamt region to the Rigi and Titlis. The route continues past a rustic farm – always along the forest edge. Those who want to enjoy the view again can make a loop downhill back towards the restaurant. Ambitious skiers can branch off the route towards Lindenberg. Several sections of the Horben trail pass through the forest, where the snow-covered trees create a wintry atmosphere.
