The Sustenpass (2224 m above sea level) connects the Urner Reuss Valley with the Haslital in the Bernese Oberland. The technically spectacular Sustenpass road was only opened in 1945 and is the first mountain pass road specially designed for motor traffic in the Alpine region.
The route starts in the village of Wassen near the 'Chileli of Wassen'. From there, follow the signposts towards the Sustenpass. Through the largely untouched and picturesque Meiental, you finally reach the pass summit, which is crossed by a summit tunnel. On the Bernese side of the tunnel, a large parking lot and a few meters above the pass road, the Susten Hospice offers a rest stop. During the descent, road cyclists repeatedly have overwhelming views of the Gadmental and the Steingletscher. The road leads down to the village of Gadmen with its beautiful old houses through partly tight bends.

Safety guidelines
- The Sustenpass is closed in winter.
Cyclists should watch the weather forecast in advance, as parts of the route are over 2000 m above sea level and therefore, in extreme cases, slight snowfall can occur.
Pay attention to the weather forecasts. In the Alps, the weather can change rapidly.
