On the Urner dialect route, you experience one of the most scenic and beautiful areas around Lake Uri, combined with literary experiences and a brief introduction to the Uri dialect. Connected with a small cable car safari, the experience is very multifaceted.

We start in Isenthal, a typical Uri mountain village. We hike westward out of the village along the road into the Grosstal to Wissig. There, we can take the aerial cableway to Furggelen. The cableway serves farms and is therefore not operated continuously. Please call ahead and register (Tel. 041 878 10 16 / 041 878 10 82 / 079 448 00 71, Family Bissig).

Alternatively, we can hike slowly on foot, covering 450 meters of elevation to Furggelen. The dialect route starts there. If you have the flyer with you, you can scan the QR code at each station with your mobile phone and listen to literary pieces. On stones, you also learn central terms from the Uri dialect. Of course, it is worth occasionally lifting your head, looking into the distance and admiring the breathtaking panorama.

Over the Scheidegg, we reach Upper Bärchi. There, we can conveniently transfer back to the cable car. It is also worth registering in advance here (Tel. 041 878 00 78 / 079 502 07 11, Family Eberli). The cable car is not operated continuously. At the valley station of the aerial cableway Vorder Bärchi-Upper Bärchi lies a barbecue area with unique panoramic views. In 30 minutes, we are back in Isenthal, where we started.

Directions & Parking facilities

You can reach Isenthal by car if you turn off at the roundabout south of Flüelen towards Seedorf, drive through Seedorf, then follow along Lake Uri to Isleten and turn left there. The steep climb leads up into Isenthal.
Parking spaces are scarce. We recommend parking your car in the paid parking lot at Isleten and using the PostBus from there.
From Altdorf, you can reach the village of Isenthal by a PostBus connection. The PostBus ride is an experience, especially the climb from Isleten up into Isenthal is winding and scenic.
