Themed route of the "Urwaldreservat Bödmeren" foundation. Start at the Urwald pavilion with an interesting exhibition as an introduction to the Urwald route. Inaugurated in July 2015 with support from the ACCENTUS foundation and the lottery fund of the canton of Schwyz.

At the Urwald pavilion, a special brochure on the Urwald route can be obtained. It describes the 9 stations along the path on a specific topic related to the forest.

From the pavilion (parking lot) at Unteres Roggenloch, you reach the small road in a few minutes and follow it to Oberes Roggenloch. From here, you go with moderate ascent to the summit point on the east side of Roggenstöckli. Here the path splits towards Twärenen (Silberen) and Wolfsbüel and further to Alp Tor. However, the themed route leads us downward past the Roggenstöckli with its marmot area. Further through an open forest zone with birch stands and a breathtaking view of the Forstberg and Druesberg mountain range. You follow the path over impressive karst fields to Stägen and turn right at the fork, reaching the road to Oberes Roggenloch after a short time. At the signpost, turn left again and finish the route at the mountain pasture Unteres Roggenloch.

Directions & Parking facilities

By car to Schwyz, then on to Muotathal and on the (very narrow) mountain pass road towards Pragel Pass to the parking lot at Unteres Roggenloch.

Usually enough parking spaces near the starting point at Unteres Roggenloch.

SBB to Schwyz. By bus to Muotathal (Schachen). From here possibly by taxi (Pragel garage Tel. 041 830 11 81). About 2 hours on foot to Unteres Roggenloch.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Visit to the pavilion as an introduction to the themed route. At Unteres Roggenloch, traditional Swiss folk music is regularly played on Sundays in summer. On weekends, the starting point can only be reached by car from the Muotathal side (road closure in Richisau).
