Winter hiking
Not in the mood for strenuous ascents? Then this winter hiking trail is a real insider tip: situated in the sun, it is ideal for everyone who prefers a short, not very demanding route. Almost always downhill, you even cross the cantonal border between Bern and Lucerne.

The winter hiking route starts at Marbachegg, comfortably reachable in ten minutes by gondola from Marbach. This is also the highest point of the route since the path leads downhill all the way. At the start of the hike, the sunny terrace at the Marbachegg mountain inn invites you to recharge. The view is unique over the Schrattenfluh mountain range, the source area of the Emmental in Kemmeriboden, over Bumbach with the striking Hohgant, and the Bernese Alpine peaks.

In the first section, the path passes by the reservoir lake to the Schottenhof Lochsitli. Here you are still in the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere, which hosts the largest and most numerous moor landscapes in the country over 400 square kilometers, as well as a nationally significant animal and plant world.

From the "Wild West of Lucerne," you soon cross the cantonal border. You continue into the Bernese community of Schangnau, the home village of ski world champion and Olympic medalist Beat Feuz. On an asphalt road, you walk past several idyllic farms. The Hohgant, Schangnau's local mountain, seems within reach. Soon you arrive at your destination in Bumbach. Directly in front of the cozy Alpenrose restaurant, the post bus stops, which takes you back to Marbach.

Safety guidelines

Please observe the following points on the winter hiking trails:

  • Stay on the marked routes
  • Allow enough time and monitor the weather
  • Keep quiet to possibly see wildlife; observe animals from a respectful distance
  • Your dogs are also allowed to do winter sports with us, but must be on a leash
  • Take your rubbish home with your beautiful memories.

If nature sports enthusiasts respect the space of wild animals, there will be fewer bans and restrictions, and the natural landscape remains open for genuine nature experiences. We ask you for careful consideration and thank you for it!
