Obrasso Concerts: Verdi Requiem

Giuseppe Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" (1874) is one of the most impressive works in music history. Although Verdi is primarily known for his operas, this work is on a par with them in terms of emotional power and combines operatic drama with sacred music in a special way. The strong musical contrasts are particularly impressive - from the harrowing "Dies irae" to quiet, hopeful moments of prayer.

The performance will be conducted by Manfred Obrecht and performed by the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana and the Coro dell'Opera di Parma. The ensemble will be complemented by soloists Ekaterina Bakanova, Ulrike Malotta, Riccardo Della Sciucca and Marian Pop.

The concerts on October 31 and November 1 at the KKL Lucerne are regarded as a highlight of this year's program.
