In Lucerne, Advent is heralded in with the festive ‘Advent opening’ on Europaplatz. This year, visitors can look forward to live music, ice skating shows, a group of Santa Clauses, the Christmas Train Lucerne and a wheel of fortune. The highlight every year is the illumination of the large Christmas tree. The event is free of charge for all visitors.

Evening Advent Concerts
The Evening Advent Concerts provide musical accompaniment during the Advent season. From Thursday to Sunday, on selected evenings, regional and national acts will perform on the main stage at Europaplatz. Choirs, bands, singers and musicians representing a variety of musical genres will provide a musical highlight and help get everyone in the mood for Christmas. The concerts are free of charge and open to all.

Ice skating with views across Lake Lucerne and the unique mountain panorama. During Lucerne Ice Magic, Europaplatz is transformed into a winter wonderland with an ice rink, a charming chalet, a wide range of food and drink options, and various pavilions that invite you to linger. Use of the ice rink is free for everyone. Ice skates and skating aids can be hired on site.
Christmas Train Lucerne
22 November to 27 December 2026
During Advent 2026, the Lucerne Christmas Train awaits anyone wishing to enjoy a festive city tour through the sparkling ‘City of Lights’, Lucerne. On board the lovingly decorated Christmas train, you will enjoy a cosy journey filled with sparkling lights, music and stories from the city’s festive past. The approximately 60-minute journey takes you past festively lit alleyways, glittering squares and wonderfully fragrant Christmas huts. The Lucerne Christmas Train makes Christmas fairy tales come true. Hop on, sit back and enjoy!
