With a gradient of up to 48 percent, the cogwheel railroad up Mount Pilatus is the steepest cogwheel railroad in the world. The railroad was put into operation in 1889 and still amazes today with its ingenious design.
The journey from Alpnachstadt to Pilatus Kulm at 2,132 meters above sea level takes around 30 minutes. Over a distance of 4.6 kilometers, you ride past magnificent mountain meadows and imposing rock faces for around 30 minutes. Can you spot the marmots and ibex next to the track?

From Lucerne railroad station: Take the S5 train to Alpnachstad station. The train journey takes 17 minutes.
Or from Lucerne by boat from landing stage no. 2. The boat trip takes 50 - 90 minutes and is only possible from May to October.
By car:
A8 highway in the direction of Sarnen/Interlaken, exit Alpnachstad.
Parking spaces are available at the valley station. E-charging stations for electric cars are located at Alpnachstad railroad station.
