The farm has been owned by the Hunkeler family since 1826. The area devoted to pome fruit and grapes totals 7.83 hectares, all of which are fully protected from hail by covers. This is purely a precaution against extreme weather, which is, however, quite rare in Oberkirch. Instead, the climate is mild, making it ideal for viticulture and fruit growing. With moderate temperatures—neither too hot nor too cold—the area receives an average annual precipitation of 1,200–1,400 mm. The Hunkeler family cultivates its crops in accordance with the Suisse Guarantee guidelines. These require that all products be 100% grown, harvested, and processed in Switzerland. In addition, the PER guidelines (ecological performance requirements) must be followed. Rankhof Vineyards and Orchards never uses genetically modified plants. In addition to selling its own products directly, it sells a large quantity of fruit through the Fenaco Sursee fruit warehouse, which also supplies wholesalers such as Migros and Coop.
