Ursern Valley Museum

Discover the rich history and culture of the Ursern Valley in the fascinating Ursern Valley Museum, which covers a wide range of topics, including the valley and cultural history, tourism, the military, alpine farming, alpine animals and flora as well as the muleteer trade. The museum also houses a natural history cabinet and has a room dedicated to the former Swiss ski racer Bernhard Russi, a native of Andermatt. On the ground floor, you will also find an exciting temporary exhibition on various topics, the current theme of which can be found on their website.

The house in which the museum is located is itself an impressive testimony to history. With its late baroque panelling, doors and furniture, it offers a unique backdrop for your visit. One of the most beautiful patrician buildings in the Ursern Valley, it was built in 1786 by the valley mayor Franz Dominik Nager as a residential and commercial building. In 1799, it even served as the headquarters of the Russian General Suvorov and is therefore often referred to as the "Suvorov House". After extensive restoration work between 1987 and 1991, the house is now back in all its splendour and invites visitors to immerse themselves in the past.
