Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Option:
Via Unteres Furggeli (2486 m) there is a rewarding alpine variant (T4). This route leads via "Zum blauen Stein", then to the Erzgrube (2400 m), where traces of former ore mining activities are still visible today.
Tip:
Those who prefer a more relaxed pace can choose the hut path near the "Seewen" group of houses in front of the lake. This steadily climbs over meadowland and through forest, later through open terrain. On a good and beautiful path, we reach the Windgällenhütte.
Another alternative is the mountain path on the northern shore of the Golzeren Lake. Via Würzen we rejoin the main path at about 1600 m. Through Nossplatte and above the swampy area of Ortliboden, we reach the hut.
Safety guidelines
Mountain hiking is demanding.
For mountain and alpine hikes, knowledge of hazards in the mountains (rockfall, slipping/fall risk, sudden weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic maps (not just smartphones), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic gear. For alpine hiking routes, rope, ice axe, and possibly crampons are additionally recommended. A first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies are also part of the basic equipment.
It is advisable to plan the tour seriously and prepare carefully for every hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can make orientation difficult even in summer. The greatest danger in summer, besides heat, is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail can quickly turn a small stream into large rivers and increase the risk of mudslides and rockfalls. Therefore, interpreting the weather forecast when planning tours is important. Heat thunderstorms often come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of day. In general, it is worthwhile to start early in summer.
Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking routes (white-blue-white marked routes), and hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.
The Uri hiking planner and the Uri Outdoor app help with planning. Through Geo Admin you find many useful information such as where there are pastures with guardian dogs, suckler cow pastures, and also wildlife protection zones.
Hikers hike at their own risk. The Urner Wanderwege association does not accept liability for accidents occurring during the Urner Alpenkranz hikes.
Attention: Between Oberchäseren and Bernetsmatt, we pass through some short exposed sections. Here you have to be especially careful in wet weather.
