- Start: Windgällenhütte
- Destination: Hüfihütte
From the Windgällenhütte AACZ (2031 m) we follow the path that descends past the huts of the Alp Stäfel (1927 m) towards the rock step of the Tritt. At the next junction, we choose the Trittweg and reach the hut of Sass (1474 m) via the Spritzbach and the Milchbäche with many bends in the path.
We follow the path to the left to the Riedbödmer (1432 m). Here we cross the Chärstelenbach (1424 m) and ascend on the other side of the wildly foaming stream under the flank of the mighty Düssistock through the alder bushes of the Rimenen over the Hüfital towards Unterhüfi. Then the hut path winds in tight hairpins past the Hüfistöcklenen up to the high seat of the impressive Hüfihütte SAC (2334 m). Magnificent is the view over the deeply incised Maderanertal. Impressive are the smoothly polished rock towers of the Chalchschijen, and the rock bastions of Windgällen, Pucher and Gross Ruchen appear massive.

Mountain hiking is demanding.
Knowledge of dangers in the mountains (rockfall, risk of slipping/falling, sudden weather changes) is necessary for mountain and alpine hiking trails. Sturdy hiking shoes with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic national maps (not just smartphone), compass and altimeter belong to the basic equipment. For alpine hikes, rope, ice axe and possibly crampons are also recommended. Additionally, a pocket first aid kit, emergency blanket and mobile phone for emergencies belong to the basic equipment.
It is advisable to do serious route planning and careful preparation for every hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can make orientation difficult even in summer. The biggest hazard in summer besides heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail quickly turn small streams into large rivers, increasing the risk of mudflows and rockfalls. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report during route planning. Heat thunderstorms often come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of day. In general, it is worthwhile to be on the move early in summer.
Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking trails (white-blue-white marked route), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.
The Urner Wanderplaner and the Uri Outdoor App help with planning. Through Geo Admin, you can find many useful informations such as where pastures with herd protection dogs, cow pastures and also wildlife sanctuaries are located.
Hikers hike at their own risk. The Urner Wanderwege association is not liable for accidents that occur during the Urner Alpenkranz hike.
