The Furka area is one of the preferred hiking and mountaineering paradises in our country. It offers almost all mountain enthusiasts a wealth of challenging routes as well as scenic hikes. Here is also the comfortable hike of Alpenkranz stage no. 25 to the Albert-Heim-Hütte. Accommodation and catering were already available at Tiefenbach as early as 1875. Over the years, a small hamlet with its own chapel developed near the hotel.

After a good sleep, the path leads us from Hotel Tiefenbach to the Albert-Heim-Hütte over the Schafberg. First, we follow the natural road to Tätsch (2272 m). Here, we climb a first step up to the Ochsenalp. At the fork, we turn right and climb to the Schafberg (2590 m). Here we have a magnificent mountain backdrop for a break and enjoy the beautiful view. Afterwards, we hike over the long ridge to the scenic rock ledge and reach the splendidly located high seat of the Albert-Heim-Hütte SAC (2543 m) in the midst of the glacier world.

Option:

Those who want to do a longer hike can follow the Urschne Höhenweg to Gspenderboden (2262 m). Surrounded by a magnificent mountain world with impressive rock formations of the Furka area, the mountain path branches off towards Saasegg (2307 m) and leads us over smoothly polished rounded rocks and through grassy sections to Lochberg. We then follow this uphill to the Albert-Heim-Hütte.

Safety guidelines

Mountain hiking is demanding.

For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of hazards in the mountains (rockfall, slipping/falling hazards, sudden weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with a grippy sole, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic maps (not just a smartphone), compass, and altimeter are part of the basic equipment. Additionally, a pocket first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies are part of the basic equipment.

It is recommended to do serious route planning and careful preparation for every hike. Weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can make orientation difficult even in summer. The biggest dangers in summer besides heat are thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail can turn a small brook into a large river quickly, and the risk of mudflows and rockfall increases. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report when planning tours. Heat thunderstorms often only come in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time. In general, it is worthwhile to start early in summer.

Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking trails (marked white-blue-white), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.

The Uri hiking planner and the Uri outdoor app help with planning. Via Geo Admin you can find many useful pieces of information, e.g., where pastures with herd protection dogs, mother cow pastures, and also wildlife protection areas are located.

Hikers hike at their own risk. The association Urner Wanderwege is not liable for accidents that occur during the Urner Alpenkranz hikes.
